Derek's Bio
Born in Baltimore, MD, and raised and currently residing in the oasis of Pasadena, Derek has been a lifelong fan of Charm City sports. Before he could walk, he was propping himself up against the television set with one hand, tiny bat in the other, trying to emulate the swing of Eddie Murray. Despite their best efforts to rip the love from his heart, Derek still dreams of the day when the Orioles are no longer the laughing stock of the American League East, and the MLB in general. Growing up a fan of football, but with an allegiance to no team in particular, Derek had no problem latching onto the Ravens from the day he heard they were on the way. He spends his days as an environmental scientist, but by night, Derek shares his thoughts at his website, B'More Birds' Nest (www.bmorebirdsnest.com), and now here at WNST.net.

Fortunately, we’ve had the pleasure around here of not having to start thinking about the next year’s draft until late January the past two seasons (unlike dismal 2007, where we started thinking draft around November-ish). Admittedly, I take a very unscientific approach to my mock drafts. I’m the first to admit that the ... Read More »
Another season, another trip to face the AFC South winners, holders of the #1 overall seed in the AFC. Can the Ravens repeat the huge upset they pulled last year in Nashville against the Titans? Methinks yes. Let’s look at the reasons why… 1. The Colts’ regular season dominance will again hurt ... Read More »
Wes “Tiny Tim” Welker hobbled out to midfield with the captains for the coin toss. Matt Slater stopped Jalen Parmele in his tracks at the Ravens’ 17 yard line on the opening kickoff. Those two moments, both occurring prior to about 1:05 PM Eastern Time, would be the last semblance of good feelings for every chowdah-swilling Masshole ... Read More »
(You know, like LOLCATS…) My full game recap is in the works, but in the meantime, let’s have some fun at the Patriots’ expense, shall we? Thanks to the Baltimore Sun for all the pics. ... Read More »
For the second time in as many years, the Ravens head on the road for Wild Card weekend to take on the AFC East Champs, who are quarterbacked by the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year. A season ago, it was Chad Pennington and the Miami Dolphins. This time around, Tom Brady and ... Read More »
As everyone knows by now, no doubt, little Wes Welker’s season is over. Welker, eerily, was making a cut to try to avoid Bernard Pollard, the same guy who ended Tom Brady’s 2008 season in Week 1, when his knee bent awkwardly. That awkward bend served to injure his knee ligaments to the ... Read More »
It wasn’t pretty, that’s for sure, but the end result of Sunday’s game in Oakland is inarguable: The Baltimore Ravens are IN the playoffs for the second consecutive season. That’s now 2/2 for John Harbaugh and Joe Flacco, just the second time in Ravens history that they have advanced to the postseason in ... Read More »
The Weekly Honor’s namesake again lived up to his billing, gashing the Steelers’ (then) #1 rush defense for 141 yards on 30 carries. He had only 1 catch for 14 yards though, and his fumble on the play after fellow 2008 second-round draft pick Rashard Mendenhall had done the same really hurt the Ravens. Still, ... Read More »
I honestly can’t remember a game that included such ridiculous stomach-churning, caused by great highs followed immediately by crushing lows. With the Ravens having just cut Pittsburgh’s lead to 20-17 in the third quarter, on the first play after the kickoff, Dominique Foxworth intercepted Baby Ben and returned in 46 yards for a touchdown. Suddenly, ... Read More »
The Ravens once again clash heads with the Pittsburgh Steelers this week. For the fifth consecutive meeting between these two teams, 1 game or less separates them in the standings. Fortunately, though, the Ravens have a slightly higher margin for error right now than Pittsburgh does. A Ravens loss would not preclude ... Read More »
