The Swinging Bunt
Here it is the 2009 NCAA Tournament Bracket! Selection Sunday, College Basketball’s most anxious day of the year, has now come and gone and two local schools will representing Baltimore in the Biog Dance. Congrats to the students, alums, and fans of University of Maryland and Morgan State and especially to the players and Coach Williams and Coach Bozeman. If your such a fan of local college hoops the people over on the selection committee set up a convenient potential road-trip… both Maryland and Morgan will play in Kansas City on Thursday. The Terps will tip against Cal at 2:55 in the afternoon with the Bears closing the night session against Oklahoma getting underway at 9:40, both times being Eastern Standard of course; it’s my favorite time zone.

The Gus Johnson Watch is officially ON! The most underrated part of the NCAA Tournament is, none other than… my boy, Gus Johnson. He could make any game feel and sound like the most exciting one you’ve ever heard in your entire life. Unfortunately, CBS is shipping Gus out to Minneapolis with Len Elmore, his esteemed color analyst tag-team partner and former Terp legend. I’m not sure where his gem will come from, but in case you’re wondering the match-ups they’ll be calling are West Virginia-Dayton, Kansas-North Dakota St., Boston College-USC, and Michigan St.-Robert Morris. My money is on a potentially dramatic 2nd round West Virginia-Kansas game.

Really, Cal? The University of California at Berkeley is a worldwide leader as an institution of higher learning and let’s just say has always been a safe haven for ‘alternative’ views. Remember those annoying ‘tree-sitters’ outside of the football stadium? Well they’ve been forced to get down, perhaps to go to their classes, like ‘Arguing with Judge Judy: Popular Logic on Judge TV Shows’, or ‘The Strategy of StarCraft.’ The west coast, man… far out!

Awful announcing has the NCAA Tournament Announcers’ Schedule. The Opening Round games in Kansas City will be called by Tim Brando and Mike Gminski, definitely not a bad listen for Maryland and Morgan State fans.

When I came across this link I realized it was such a slam-dunk to be today’s feature.
The Morning’s Final Thought
Perhaps the most ridiculous comment I’ve read in a long, long time…
“Why did I sign with the Nationals? When you go to a club at four in the morning, and you’re just waiting, waiting, a 600-pounder looks like J. Lo. And to me this is Jennifer Lopez right here. It’s four in the morning. Too much to drink. So, Nationals: Jennifer Lopez to me.”
