It has been a very surprising first half of conference play for the UMBC women’s basketball team. Last season they were terrible on the road and this season they seem to only be able to win on the road. While the team is 3-0 on the road in conference play they are 0-5 in the RAC against America East opponents as they dropped their latest game to Stony Brook, 74-56.
In a game that UMBC never led, the team shot just 32.8% from the field, and their defense could not stop the worst offense in the conference. Stony Brook, who was averaging a conference low 55.5 points per game going into the game scored 74 points and shot 43.1% from the field and 58.3% from three point range. They also dominated the rebounding battle, 51-35.
The Retrievers just could not find an answer for Seawolf forward Kirsten Jeter, who led all players with 24 points and 12 rebounds. She was successful on nine field goal attempts, four of which were three-pointers. She also went 2-for-2 from the free throw line and dished out four assists.
Crystal Rushin was two rebounds away from another Seawolve double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Guard duo Michelle Kurowski and Carlee Cassidy scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, but the other eight players in the game could only manage to score a combined 31 points.
