Born in Baltimore but now living right across the line in southern Pa., Luke Jones' mind is filled with sports trivia and random movie quotes. His favorite sports memories include attending the Ravens' Super Bowl XXXV victory parade in the pouring rain and watching Juan Dixon and the Terps advance to the Final Four at the Carrier Dome in 2002 (making snow-heavy Syracuse bearable for one day). His least favorite memory is a variety of trips to Camden Yards to see Red Sox or Yankees fans take over the ballpark. After winning WNST's King of Baltimore Sportstalk competition last year, he now writes for WNST.net, covering University of Maryland basketball and football and Ravens training camp. You can always drop him a line to talk Baltimore sports or simply say hello at luke@wnst.net.

(UPDATED) Maryland-North Carolina still on for Sunday afternoon

As the East Coast digs out from the mounds of white left behind by Snowpocalpyse 2010, Maryland fans continue to follow the status of the Terps’ scheduled game against North Carolina at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The University of Maryland released the following statement late Saturday evening:

<<<College Park, MD—The Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball game between Maryland and North Carolina will be played as scheduled at the Comcast Center on Sunday, February 7th. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. ACC protocol indicates games should be played if both teams and two of the three game officials have arrived at the site. The Tarheel team is in College Park as are the three game officials.

Due to the unprecedented weather conditions, the University of Maryland encourages fans to carefully evaluate treacherous travel conditions before driving to campus and to consider other options. While University crews are working around-the-clock shifts to have roads, sidewalks, steps and parking lots cleared, it should be anticipated that large portions of gameday parking lots and sidewalks will be snow-covered due to the historic blizzard and many garage spots will be occupied by on-campus resident students. We expect reserved lots will be plowed and staffed, but not all spaces will be available. Regents Drive Garage will be available free of charge while spaces remain.

The game will be televised by Fox Sports Net and shown locally by Comcast SportsNet.>>>

Gary Williams had a conference call with the media Saturday afternoon and confirmed the game would be played as scheduled as the North Carolina basketball team and game officials arrived ahead of the storm. To their credit—and unlike the Chicago Bears back in December—Roy Williams and the Tar Heels were proactive in arriving a full day ahead of schedule in anticipation of the record snowfall and even practiced at Comcast Center on Friday and Saturday evenings.

“They’ve been here [since yesterday]. It’s not a normal routine, but it’s not normal for either team, so you have to deal with it,” said Williams, who stayed at Comcast Center Friday night and will remain there until after Sunday’s game.

For those unable to travel to College Park or who simply do not have tickets, the game will be televised locally on Comcast SportsNet and nationally on Fox Sports Net with Tim Brando and Mike Gminski providing the call.

So if we can’t get to College Park is there any way we can exchange our tickets or at least get our money back? I know this is not a question for you but you may be able to talk to someone at Maryland and let us know

(L.J. - Hopefully we’ll know something more this afternoon. It’s obviously a very delicate situation with so many factors at play here.)

Watched the game while preparing for the S.B. i AM SOOOOO HAPPY TO SEE mARYLAND WIN.
Stomp on those arrogant S.O.B.’s of N. C. Love it when Gary & his team which for the most part are made up of leftovers that Duke & N.C. don’t want kick some butt. Go Terps.

(L.J. - Was definitely a good start to the sports day capped off with the Saints beating those guys from Indianapolis. Gary is absolutely getting the most out of these players right now. It was a VERY impressive performance yesterday.)
