Luke's Bio
Born in Baltimore but now living right across the line in southern Pa., Luke Jones' mind is filled with sports trivia and random movie quotes. His favorite sports memories include attending the Ravens' Super Bowl XXXV victory parade in the pouring rain and watching Juan Dixon and the Terps advance to the Final Four at the Carrier Dome in 2002 (making snow-heavy Syracuse bearable for one day). His least favorite memory is a variety of trips to Camden Yards to see Red Sox or Yankees fans take over the ballpark. After winning WNST's King of Baltimore Sportstalk competition last year, he now writes for WNST.net, covering University of Maryland basketball and football and Ravens training camp. You can always drop him a line to talk Baltimore sports or simply say hello at luke@wnst.net.

The early stages of Tuesday night’s game in Bloomington looked painfully familiar to the Terps. With the Hoosiers beating the press and the Terps struggling to score, it suddenly looked like Assembly Hall had been transported to Maui. However, the Terps’ fortune turned when Gary Williams switched to the zone and Greivis Vasquez slowly emerged from ... Read More »
The Maryland Terrapins landed in Maui looking to make a statement that they were back among the elite of the ACC and deserving of a top-25 ranking after an impressive 3-0 start. Instead, Maryland looks very similar to the team that struggled to make the NCAA tournament a year ago. Following a 78-69 loss to Wisconsin in ... Read More »
The sheer volume of opining, panicking, and lamenting jamming the airwaves, flooding inboxes, and littering message boards since 4:30 p.m. on Sunday has been impossible to escape if you’re a Ravens fan. And it’s understandable with Sunday’s game clearly being one of the Ravens’ worst performances in recent memory. Of course, the venting is part of the cathartic process ... Read More »
Nearly every notable season in the brief history of the Baltimore Ravens has included a critical point that determined which path the team would travel. Of course, the Super Bowl winner of 2000 endured a five-game touchdown drought before head coach Brian Billick reinvented his coaching philosophy and turned to the “Dark Side” of winning ugly ... - The Baltimore rush defense hadn’t allowed a 100-yard rusher in nearly three years before the Bengals’ Cedric Benson ended the streak at 39 games on Sunday. Benson’s 28-yard touchdown run pushed him over the century mark while also giving the Bengals a 10-7 lead in the third quarter. The former Texas Longhorn rushed 27 times ... Read More »
With the start of conference play looming next Saturday, the University of Maryland will try to right its disappointing season against Rutgers in College Park on Saturday afternoon. Having lost two of their first three games and needing overtime to secure their lone win against James Madison, the Terps (1-2) face Greg Schiano’s Scarlet Knights (2-1, ... Read More »
Alright, I’m a couple days late, so I guess I lose points much like a high school kid turning in a research paper two days late. What can I say? I’m a procrastinator. I had to take out my fearless prediction of Steelers safety Troy Polamalu going down with an injury on Opening Night, because no ... Read More »
Some label it parity while others believe it’s mediocrity, or even just plain luck, but it’s clear to see why many claim the NFL actually stands for “Not For Long.” How else do you explain the Miami Dolphins—owner of a 1-15 record in 2007—winning the AFC East in 2008? Or on the flip side, is it ... Read More »
The Ravens are holding their last full-squad voluntary passing camp this week before wrapping up the OTA schedule with rookie camp next week. This week’s workouts are focused on game planning for their three AFC North opponents. Coaches and players have discussed opposing personnel and simulated game-week preparation for the rookies and newcomers. The team focused ... Read More »
Despite a disappointing end to the four-game series with Detroit, it was encouraging seeing an energized crowd at Camden Yards this weekend. Matt Wieters may be off to a slow start at the plate, but that won’t dampen the enthusiasm for the 23-year-old catcher. National pundits are calling him the most hyped prospect since Bo Jackson. It ... Read More »
