The Orioles are still in last place but completed an inspired weekend of road baseball, finishing a three-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies in the City of Brotherly Love.
Today, it was Jeremy Guthrie’s turn to step up with a big outing and Adam Jones and Brian Roberts driving in the key late-inning runs to beat the Phils 2-1 after a huge comeback on Saturday night on the heels of a great start by Brad Bergesen. Roberts has been the difference maker the past two days, stepping up as a veteran leader for a team trying to dig out of the AL East basement.
The Orioles have now won five in a row and take their final Interleague turn of the season south to South Beach and a three-game set meeting with the Marlins on Tuesday night.

You beat me to the punch…or I was delayed by a great dinner. Another great win. This team was fun to watch this weekend.
The Orioles got just the pitching performance they needed from Jeremy Guthrie and some timely hitting from Adam Jones and Brian Roberts for a 2-1 win, and completed a three game sweep of the defending World Champion and NL East leading Philadelphia Phillies today at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
The win is the fifth in a row for the Orioles, who now head to Miami for a three game set with the Florida Marlins beginning on Tuesday night.
Guthrie allowed a solo homerun to Greg Dobbs to lead off the second inning, but kept the Phillies in check the rest of the way. Guthrie gave the O’s a solid seven innings, scattering just three hits and walking two. It was the kind of performance we grew accustomed to seeing out of Guthrie over the course of the 2008 season, but the kind that has eluded him in ’09.
The Orioles got two hits a piece from Jones, Roberts, and Ty Wigginton, who gave Aubrey Huff the day off at 1st base. Robert Andino had a timely eighth inning double and was nicely moved over to third by pinch hitting Oscar Salazar to set the table for the go ahead RBI from Roberts
The Orioles have also won seven of eight and have inched closer to the .500 mark at 32-37.
If you missed the games this weekend in Philadelphia, you missed some pretty good baseball out of a team that looked absolutely dead to the world just ten days ago.
Things certainly worked out for Dave Trembley as he tinkered with his lineup all weekend, doing his best to get guys at bats in a National League ballpark, under National League rules.
The Phillies looked like anything but contenders, and helped the Orioles improve on their already impressive interleague record, which now stands at 9-3. The Orioles will get six more cracks at the NL East, and then it’s back to reality. These next two series are pretty big for this club, even as they reside still comfortably in the cellar of the AL East.
