10th Biggest Story Of 2007 – Texas Rangers Score 30 Runs In Single Game

What a way to start a list, huh? The “10th Biggest Sports Story Of The Year” occurred on Wednesday August 22, 2007 ….. in Baltimore, Maryland.

On this historic night, the Texas Rangers accomplished a feat that hadn’t been realized in more than 100 years. Were you there? Mark Suchy was ….. and as he’s said, it’s something he’ll “never forget.”

In just 9 innings, the Rangers scored more runs then they’d accumulated in the previous 9 games. And, they scored 9 more runs in the nightcap of this late summer twin-bill. The Orioles pitching staff succumbed to innings of ridiculous run totals. The Rangers runs came in bunches ….. as they scored in only 4 of the 9 innings.

Here’s a compelling statistic I came across ….. in this game, the Orioles did something the Ravens proudly failed to do throughout the entire 2006 season ….. give up 30 runs/points. That really sums up how embarrassing this game was for the Orioles.

Ironically, earlier in the day, the Orioles announced Dave Trembley would return to manage the team, in 2008. A nice gift on behalf of the players, huh? In the days and weeks to follow, it wouldn’t get any easier.

Over the remainder of the season, the Orioles compiled 11 wins, against 27 losses. They finished in the cellar of the AL-East, again ….. with their roommates, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. They entered October with more questions than they tabled in February.

Throughout the 2007 season, the Orioles were an afterthought and mitigating inclusion on nightly national sports telecasts. However, on one evening ….. August 22nd ….. they were the lead story. And, in fitting fashion.

Where were you on August 22nd …..
