As we are in the middle of the worst health crisis of our lifetime, we welcomed Brian Pieninck, President & CEO of CareFirst, as he lent his expertise and perspective during a 30 minute conversation with Nestor Aparicio and Don Mohler on Baltimore Positive.
“When the situation began, we formed a task force like many others,” Pieninck said. “In our case, the task force reports directly to me and our executive leadership team. From there, it’s really having a clear sense of where our priorities needed to be to be organized effectively. We prioritized around the health and safety of our workforce. We wanted to get people out of offices and get them working remotely safely, making sure they have what needed. We needed to maintain business continuity and uninterrupted service to our customers…people need to see that we have strength and stability that can be maintained even amidst some challenging services.”
Pieninck and his team hoped to make all situations as smooth as possible given the circumstances.
“We removed barriers to care for our members,” Pieninck said. “We ensured that economics wouldn’t be a reason that they didn’t go in to get testing where it’s available, to have treatment when it’s needed and required, and to ensure there is a strong relationship between the patients and providers in the community that wasn’t inhibited by any financial concerns.”
