Get more than just your own CAN out to the stadium om Sunday

November 16, 2007 | WNST Staff

While your packing your tailgate, grab some canned goods, to do good!

The Ravens will host the 12th annual Ravens Family Food & Funds Drive prior to kickoff of Sunday’s Ravens vs. Browns game. The Lady Ravens Association, Ravens family members and volunteers will be stationed outside M&T Bank Stadium gates from 11 a.m. until kickoff at 1 p.m. All food and proceeds go directly to the Maryland Food Bank, which will distribute donated items to soup kitchens, food pantries and emergency shelters throughout the holiday season.

The Maryland Food Bank is most in need of canned items (meats, vegetables, fruits, soups), peanut butter, cereal, rice and pasta. Any non-perishable food items and monetary donations will be accepted.

The 12th annual Ravens Family Food & Funds Drive is sponsored by McCormick & Company and Von Paris, who will transport collected items from the stadium to the Maryland Food Bank. In addition, Shoppers Food & Pharmacy has joined with the Ravens to extend the stadium food drive to a month-long effort, which began on Nov. 1. More than 5,000 lbs. of non-perishable items have already been donated at Shoppers stores across the area.

* For every $1 donated, the Maryland Food Bank is able to provide the equivalent of between 6 and 9 meals to families in need. If every ticket holder donates $1, the Maryland Food Bank would raise more than $70,000 on Sunday for its holiday efforts.

* Each week, there are 50,000 people in Maryland relying on emergency food programs. The Ravens encourage all fans to donate non-perishable food items to help the less fortunate.
