Our good pal Jerry Schlichting of Clean Cuisine hopped on the line with Nestor to discuss how the coronavirus situation is impacting his business. While many businesses are struggling big time in light of the current shutdowns, Jerry has a business model that his customers have found quite valuable during these times.
“We were always set up for meal prep,” Schlichting said. “We weren’t necessarily looking for a retail location. The space that we found, we were looking for a hood and a walk-in, we found it and decided to do retail. We already do meal-prep for a lot of people in the Ravens organization, a lot of gyms, a lot of women that don’t want to hook for their husbands. A lot of men, whoever it is, we were set up for meal prep. The normal person would come into our store and say hey, let me pick up some food for tonight. Now, people are coming in for four, five, six days a weeks worth of food. It’s change things for the better, although it’s hard to be happy about it.”
Jerry is very knowledgable about clean eating and places a high priority on providing his customers food that are going to fuel them and better their health. Quite the opposite from many food establishments in today’s society…
“We do gourmet food better, and by better I mean better ingredients,” Schlichting said. “We’re not using blended oils. We’re not using high fructose corn syrup, no added sweeteners, no artificial sweeteners. We’re not using inflammatory foods.”
