MMA / UFC news and note

June 21, 2007 | WNST Staff

Tomorrow on the Rob Long show around 2:30, Frank Shamrock will join us to talk about his upcoming fight this Friday vs Phil Baroni on Showtime. This is the main event fight on a card that is being put on by Pro Elite. You can watch a very good video promo for this fight and other fights here on the web (some language could be offensive). This should be a brutal, very personal fight.
Rumors have been flying around for a while now that the UFC could be coming back to the East Coast for the first time since 2005. Now UFCjunkie is reporting that UFC 79 looks like it will take place in East Rutherford, NJ, at the Continental Airlines Arena in November. It is expected that one of the main fights on that card will be UFC Welterweight Champion Matt Serra defending his title against Matt Hughes. Both fighters are scheduled to be the coaches on the hit reality show The Ultimate Fighter season 6, which will air on Spike TV in September. This will be a big draw since Serra is from New York and Matt Hughes is one of the more popular fighters in the UFC.
I think I might have to be “on assignment”, that day.
Had the opportunity to take a Brazilian Ju Jitsu class this past Tuesday with John Rallo and his crew over at Ground Control here in Baltimore. You have a whole new level of respect for these guys who fight on a professional and amateur level. I look forward to working out at the school again. John and his staff are a bunch of great guys who are very eager to teach. If you are looking to get involved in the world of Brazilian Ju Jitsu, or just looking for a great work out, check out John and his crew at Planet Mayhem.
John will join us often when he has time during our MMA/UFC segment.
Any comments/thoughts on the MMA and the UFC –
