My Baseball memory…short and simple

July 24, 2007 | WNST Interns

So I was thinking the other day…when did I really become a baseball fan? I have lots of great memories…some more vivid then others, but which was the best one. Then it hit me…when I met Boog Powell. Hey I have the pictures to prove it. I must have been 5 or so and the Baltimore Orioles held a pre-game photo opportunity for kids. You could walk onto the field, stand next to your favorite Oriole and take a picture. Can you imagine that now?

Boog was a huge man…especially to a 5 year old and to this day my favorite Oriole…my second fav is Eddie Murray. It’s funny the things you remember, but he was as nice then as he is today. He took the time to shake hands with each and every fan, pose for a picture and sign anything you wanted.

That day hooked me. My family had season tickets up until 2003, I use to go to 30 plus games a year and now have not been since 2004. Hopefully I will soon take my son (now 3) to a game, in the hope he can have an experience and develop a love for the game like I did. Maybe an Oriole will take their time to shake his hand and say hello and hook him. We can dream can’t we.

A close second was the last day at Memorial Stadium….to see your heroes run out onto the field one last time was truly special.
