The Barber Sho

May 14, 2007 | WNST Interns

Welcome to Rob’s, WNST’s one and only barber shop. This is the place where we come to debate about those issues in sports that could never be settled. You know, who’s the best player, in any sport, of all time. If Babe Ruth played in today’s era he would…

Today’s issue is the most valuable baseball player in the game today. Most of you would instantly bring up A-Rod, Pujols. etc. Allow me to introduce you to a man we all know: Carlos Beltran.

Beltran is a guy who almost always has value. While others around MLB are quiet when they aren’t hitting, Beltran is a guy who can still impact a game with his flawless defense and not only speed, but outstanding baserunning. Carlos Beltran is a guy who is overlooked. That is a odd thing to say for a guy who plays in the "Big Apple."

While Jose Reyes, Ichiro, and top of the order players pocess pure lead-off skills, Beltran has the skills to bat anywhere from 1-5. Beltran is a player who can be pitched around and steal a base, clear the bases with a 430 foot home run, go from first to third on a base hit, or make a great play in the field to help his pitcher. Go ask Ryan Howard to do that.

E-mail me at to discuss it or call me from 2-6. "I wanna talk to ya."
