Hopkins draws Georgetown in first round of NCAA tourney

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins (11-4) will host Georgetown (12-4) in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Tournament it was announced on Sunday evening. The Johns Hopkins-Georgetown game will take place on Sunday, May 13 (5 pm) and will air live on ESPNU. Johns Hopkins earned an automatic bid to the tournament and is the number five seed, while Georgetown earned an automatic bid to the tournament by winning the BIG EAST Championship.

The winner of the Johns Hopkins-Georgetown first round game will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals at Navy on May 19 (time TBA). The winner of the Hopkins-Georgetown game will play the winner of the Duke-Villanova first-round game in the quarterfinals. Duke is the number four seed in the tournament.

Johns Hopkins is making its record 46th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and is one of two Big Ten teams in the 17-team bracket as Maryland (number one seed) is also in the field.

Johns Hopkins boasts a 70-36 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament with nine NCAA titles to its credit. The Blue Jays’ 70 wins and 18 championship-game appearances are both national records.

This will be the third meeting between Johns Hopkins and Georgetown and the second in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Jays knocked off the Hoyas, 14-6, in the 2007 NCAA Quarterfinals en route to winning its ninth NCAA Championship.

Ticket information forSunday’s game will be announced on Monday. Gates will open at Homewood Field at 3:30 pm on game day.
