Loyola University Maryland men’s lacrosse will host the University of Virginia in the NCAA Championships First Round on Saturday, May 12, the Greyhounds learned during the selection show on ESPNU.
The Greyhounds (12-3 overall), who are the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Championships, earned their third-straight automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with a 15-8 victory over Lehigh University in the Patriot League Championships. Virginia, which edged Loyola 13-12 in double-overtime in both team’s season-opener on February 10, will bring a 12-5 record to Ridley Athletic Complex after reaching the ACC Championship Game.
Saturday’s game is slated for 7:15 p.m. on ESPNU. Tickets will go on-sale Monday via LoyolaGreyhounds.com/tickets.
The winner of the Loyola-Virginia game will face the winner of No. 3 seed Yale University and the University of Massachusetts.
Loyola will make its sixth NCAA appearance in the last seven years. The Greyhounds enter this year’s Championship with a 12-3 record. Through the start of the NCAA Championships, Loyola is ranked in the top-12 of eight NCAA statistical categories, including scoring margin (+5.07, 4th), shot percentage (.359, 4th), goals per game (13.60, 5th) and scoring defense (8.53, 12th).
