From A Fan’s Point of View

While witnessing the Cal Ripken ceremony, I looked at it from a fan’s point of view. I was pleasantly surprised by the Orioles’ attention to detail. It was great to see that they centered the event completely around the celebration of a brilliant career, and nothing else.

It was great to see that Orioles of old gathered to celebrate that man that brought me through some pretty rough times while growing up. That’s how I remember Cal, and as Bob Haynie wrote, I couldn’t help but to fight back a little moisture. If you followed Cal, and his career from beginning to end like I did, you probably fought the same battle with your emotions.

Then, to see the organization give him $1 million for his foundation was first class. I think they paid a proper tribute to a man who totally deserves it.
