Wizards guard Wall added to USA men’s basketball roster

WASHINGTON, DC  Washington Wizards guard John Wall has been selected to the 2014-16 USA Basketball Mens National Team, USA Basketball announced today.   Wall will join 18 other players, including teammate Bradley Beal, who have been selected for the 2014-2016 USA Mens National Team pool.  The 2014 USA World Championship Team and, if the U.S. qualifies, the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team, will be selected from that pool.

I am honored to be invited back to participate with USA Basketball and to have the opportunity to represent my country, said Wall.  I am also proud that Bradley and I will be able to represent the Wizards organization together while competing for roster spots against our peers from around the league.
Wall participated in the 2013 USA Basketball National Team mini-camp and recorded 10 points, three rebounds and two assists in the 2013 USA Basketball Showcase. He was a member of the 2012 USA Mens Select Team Roster that trained against the gold medalist 2012 USA Basketball Mens National Team and was a member of USA Junior National Select teams that competed in the Nike Hoop Summit in 2009.

He had an outstanding season with the Wizards and was a strong performer for us at last years National Team minicamp, said USA Basketball National Team Managing Director Jerry ColangeloAs we’ve said in the past, we can only extend the invitations to be part of the USA team; the players have to make the final decision and sometimes that decision changes because their circumstances have changed.
In 2013-14, Wall led the Wizards to the Eastern Conference Semifinals by averaging career highs of 19.3 points (20th in the NBA), 8.8 assists (second in the NBA) and 1.81 steals (eighth in the NBA) to go along with 4.1 rebounds while playing in all 82 games.  He earned his first All-Star selection and was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week twice while joining Chris Paul as the only two players in the NBA to average at least 19 points, eight assists, four rebounds and 1.8 steals.

All 19 players have prior USA Basketball experience and the group includes Davis, Durant, Harden and Love who were members of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Basketball Team that brought home gold, while Curry, Durant, Love and Rose were part of the 2010 USA World Championship Team that also claimed gold. 
The 2014-16 USA Basketball National Team coaching staff features USA head coach and Duke Universitys Naismith Hall of Fame mentor MIKE KRZYZEWSKI. Serving as assistant coaches are USA Basketball and Syracuse University veteran coach JIM BOEHEIM, Chicago Bulls head coach TOM THIBODEAU and New Orleans Pelicans head coach MONTY WILLIAMS.
