TOWSON BEGINS THREE-GAME ROAD TRIP AT NORTHEASTERN ON THURSDAY
Tigers seeking third straight win

BOSTON, Mass. — The Towson men’s basketball team is set to begin a three-game road swing on Thursday at Northeastern. The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) battle, set to tip at 7 p.m., can be seen live on Comcast SportsNet (CSN-MA+, CSN-P, CSN-NE).

Josh Maurer and Blaine Taylor will be on the television call. Fans can also listen to the game on the Towson Sports Network (TSN) with Damon Lewis and Vince Angotti calling the action.

Towson (18-9, 9-3 CAA) is coming off a big 78-63 win over first-place Delaware on Monday night. Tiger senior Jerrelle Benimon registered his NCAA-leading 18th double-double with 25 points and a season-high tying 18 rebounds in the win.

The victory over the Blue Hens, which snapped their 13-game winning streak, improved Towson’s home record to 14-1. The Tigers only loss inside SECU Arena came against Northeastern, a 57-54 setback on January 22.

The Huskies enter Thursday’s game with a 9-18 overall record and a 6-7 mark in league play. Northeastern picked up a 60-44 win at College of Charleston on Saturday. Junior forward Scott Eatherton paces the Huskies in both scoring (16.1 ppg) and rebounding (10.3 rpg). Eatherton has 17 double-doubles on the year, trailing only Benimon for the national lead in that category.

Northeastern leads the all-time series with Towson, 16-11. The Tigers have not beaten the Huskies in the regular season since January 2, 2008, a span of six games. Towson did defeat Northeastern in the 2009 CAA Tournament, a 58-54 win that sent the Tigers to the semifinals.

Northeastern is the only CAA team that Towson hasn’t defeated this season.

TOWSON HOSTS NORTHEASTERN ON WEDNESDAY LOOKING TO EXTEND WINNING STREAKS
Tigers have won six straight overall and 14 straight at home

TOWSON, Md. – The Towson men’s basketball team will be looking to win its sixth straight game overall and 14th straight at home when the Tigers host 2012-13 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season champion Northeastern on Wednesday night at SECU Arena.

Towson (12-6, 3-0 CAA) is riding its longest winning streak since also winning five straight in 2000. The Tigers have not won six consecutive games since 1994 when they won seven in a row late in the season.

Towson is a perfect 9-0 inside SECU Arena this year and its 13-game home court winning streak is tied for the 12th-longest in the nation currently. The Tigers’ home court streak is their longest since winning 22 in a row from 1992-95.

The Tigers are coming off a pair of impressive CAA road wins last week, topping Drexel (80-68) and league newcomer College of Charleston (72-57). Senior forward Jerrelle Benimon averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds and five assists in the two wins to garner his second CAA Player of the Week honor.

Towson has really stepped up its efforts on the defensive side of the court since the start of conference play, holding league foes to just 59.3 points per game.

Northeastern (5-14, 2-3 CAA) enters Wednesday’s game having lost six of its last eight games. However, the Huskies have seen 12 of their 14 losses come by single digits and they defeated Georgetown (63-56) earlier this season.

Junior Scott Eatherton, who leads the nation in double-doubles, paces Northeastern in scoring (16.7 ppg) and rebounding (10.3 rpg).

The Huskies lead the all-time series with the Tigers, 15-11, and have won five straight. Towson has not defeated Northeastern at home since 2008.
