Brigade’s Powell named AFL Defensive Player of the Week

BALTIMORE, MD – The Arena Football League announced Wednesday that Brigade defensive back Joe Powell has been named Week 10’s Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Washington Valor. Powell led the Brigade with 4.5 total tackles and an interception, which he returned 46 yards for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Powell’s interception return was named one of SportsCenter’s top plays of the day.

Powell, playing in his second AFL season, ranks second on the team with 39 total tackles and is tied for the team lead with three interceptions. Powell has registered at least three solo tackles in six consecutive games.

The Brigade are back in action this Saturday, June 23, hosting the Empire at 7:30 p.m. at Royal Farms Arena in what will be the team’s final home game of the regular season. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
