Kohl Stewart becomes first Orioles player to opt out due to pandemic

On Friday afternoon, the Orioles made the following roster moves:

Placed RHP Kohl Stewart on the Injured List and removed him from the 60-man player pool and 40-man roster.
Selected the contract of RHP Thomas Eshelman.

The 40-man roster currently has 39 players. The 60-man player pool has 55 players.

Statement from Orioles RHP Kohl Stewart:

“For the time being, I have decided to pause my participation in the 2020 season. My elevated risk of serious complications of COVID-19 due to type 1 diabetes continues to be of great concern. I am grateful to the organization, as well as my coaches and teammates, for their incredible support.”
