Loyola advances to NCAA tournament for seventh time in eight years

BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland men’s lacrosse will host Syracuse University in the NCAA Championships First Round on Saturday, May 12, the Greyhounds learned during the selection show on ESPNU.

The Greyhounds (11-4 overall), who are the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Championships, earned their fourth-straight bid to the NCAA. Syracuse, a team which Loyola has not played since 2009, enters the tournament with a 9-4 overall record after going 2-2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Saturday’s game is slated 12 noon on ESPNU. Tickets will go on-sale Monday via LoyolaGreyhounds.com/tickets.

The winner of the Loyola-Syracuse game will face the winner of top-seeded Penn State University or the winner of a play-in game between UMBC and Marist College.

Loyola will make its seventh NCAA appearance in the last eight years. The Greyhounds enter this year’s Championship with a 12-3 record. Through the start of the NCAA Championships, Loyola is ranked in the top-10 of nine NCAA statistical categories, including scoring margin (3rd, +4.20), scoring offense (6th, 14.00), scoring defense (9th, 9.80), winning percentage (8th, .733), man-down defense (2nd, .796) and saves per game (3rd, 14.73).
