Navy Football Team Receives Two Points In The Associated Press Top 25

ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The Navy football team received two points in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 poll.  Navy’s season opening opponent, Ohio State, is ranked fifth with 1,207 points.  Notre Dame, who Navy plays on Nov. 1 at FedExField in Landover, Md., is ranked 17th.

This is the 26th-consecutive year that Ohio State has been ranked in the AP preseason poll, which is the best in the FBS.  Oklahoma is the next closest to Ohio State at 15-consecutive years.

Navy enters the Ohio State game tied for the sixth-longest active winning streak in the FBS with five straight wins. Florida State has the longest current streak with 16-consecutive wins, while Michigan State has 10 straight victories, UCF nine and Louisville and South Carolina have six each.  Navy is tied with Vanderbilt and Texas San-Antonio with five each.

The Navy football team finished the 2013 campaign with a 9-4 record, won the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy for the ninth time in the last 11 years, qualified for a bowl game for the 10th time in the last 11 years, won a bowl game for just the eighth time in school history and defeated Army for a series-record 12th-consecutive year. The 2013 team is just the fifth in Navy’s 132-year history of playing football to win at least nine games in a season, beat Army and win a bowl game joining the 1957, 1978, 2004 and 2009 squads.
