With support waning and Maryland football off to a 2-3 start in 2015, head coach Randy Edsall is reportedly expected to be fired after Saturday’s trip to No. 1 Ohio State.
According to InsideMDSports.com, the school intends to dismiss the fifth-year head coach during next week’s bye. The 57-year-old originally signed a six-year, $10 million contract upon being hired, but Maryland gave him a three-year extension earlier this year with just $500,000 guaranteed.
The university issued the following statement in response to the report on Thursday afternoon:
“Randy Edsall is our head football coach, and he’ll be on the sidelines Saturday against Ohio State.”
Edsall is just 22-33 as head coach of the Terps after previously being credited with transitioning the University of Connecticut into a bona fide Division I FBS program.
