COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior All-American candidate Anthony Cowan Jr. has been named Big Ten Player of the Week as announced Monday by the Big Ten Conference. It is Cowan’s second Big Ten Player of the Week honor of the season.
The Terps have also been announced as ranked No. 9 in the country according to the Associated Press.
It is the second consecutive week Maryland has won the honor, as Jalen Smith earned the honor last week. The Terps last won back-to-back conference player of the week honors in 2007, when D.J. Strawberry claimed the ACC Player of the Week honors on Feb. 19 and Feb. 26.
Cowan was spectacular in the Terps’ 82-72 win over then-No. 18 Iowa, pouring in a career-high 31 points while also adding six rebounds and six assists. It was the first such stat line for a Maryland player since Greivis Vasquez had 41/7/6 in a double overtime game at Virginia Tech in 2010.
Cowan and the Terps look to stay undefeated at home Tuesday night when they host Rutgers at 7:00 pm on Fox Sports 1 and the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
