TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University football team is back.  The first 2019 season practice is in the books.

For the first time since the conclusion of the spring, the full team gathered for practice on the turf at Johnny Unitas® Stadium in preparation for the 2019 season.  The Tigers did stretch workouts, position practice and worked on plays on Friday afternoon.  The first game will be four weeks from Saturday, with several Tigers having their first fall practice for the Black & Gold today.

“It is awesome to be back,” said Towson head coach Rob Ambrose, entering his 11th season at the helm of the Tigers.  “We’ve been waiting to get back on the field.  We are rusty, we have a lot of work to do, but it is awesome to be back out here.”

Five Tigers were selected to the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Preseason All-Conference Team, led by the league’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Tom FlaccoShane Simpson, Shane Leatherbury joined the all-conference preseason team on the offensive side while Robert Heyward was on the defense and Aidan O’Neill at kicker.  In addition, four other Tigers, Jabari Allen, Aaron Grzymkowski, Bryce Carter and Keon Paye were honorable mention all-conference in the preseason.

The new Towson players, including freshmen and transfers, plus new coaches Eric Daniels and Nate Brown, are with the team for the first time in the fall.

Towson was picked to finish second in the CAA in the preseason coaches/SID poll after tying for third in the league in 2018, going 7-5 with a 5-3 conference record and an appearance in the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
