UMBC hits road Wednesday night for date at Binghamton

The UMBC Retrievers (6-14, 2-5) head back to the place where their last road victory occured almost exactly one year ago when they face the Binghamton Bearcats  (4-16, 1-6) at the BU Events Center on Wed., Jan. 29. Despite some near misses, UMBC is 0-11 on the road this season and have dropped 15 straight since the 61-58 victory in Vestal on Jan. 30, 2013. RETRIEVER UPDATE:  For the first time in 2013-14, UMBC led at halftime and prevailed after 40 minutes, as they snapped a three-game slide with a 60-58 victory over Hartford on Saturday. UH did rally from a 13-point deficit at the break to tie the game at 58, but freshman guard Bryan Harris (15 pts.) hit two free throws with 2:14 remaining for the last points of the contest. Classmate Rodney Elliott shared scoring honors with Harris and leads UMBC with 13.9 points per game.

BEARCAT UPDATE: Binghamton has dropped five straight, including a 72-39 setback at Vermont on Sunday. Binghamton trailed, 38-13, at the half, as they converted only 5-of-21 from the floor in the first 20 minutes. Four different Bearcat freshmen have earned America East Rookie-of-the-Week honors this season. The young squad is led by SO G Jordan Reed, who averages 14.1 ppg and 7.8 rpg.

Who’s Up Next: UMBC buses home after the game, spends Thursday in Baltimore, before flying to Bangor on Friday to face Maine on Saturday afternoon (2:00 p.m.).
